The brainchild of João Jara, Birds & Nature was born of the need that he recognized for a quality birding enterprise in Portugal, to bring people to birds, at all levels of interest and dedication.
The company was launched at the beginning of 2008 and is owned and managed by João, who also guides many of the tours (10 other guides work regularly with the company).
Though our company focuses on birds and birding, we see this activity as an integral part of a greater pursuit, namely the observation of nature in all its facets, hence our company's name, Birds & Nature Tours Portugal.
The company’s logo is the Eurasian Hoopoe, a uniquely distinctive bird that typifies the warmth, character and colour of the larger Mediterranean region which both Portugal and Birds & Nature share.
Birds & Nature has, as part of its mission, a commitment to contribute to nature and biodiversity conservation; this objective is at the forefront of every activity we organise.
Birds & Nature Tours Portugal is a registered tourism company (RNAAT nº 25/2008 and RNAVT nº 3908 – Turismo de Portugal I.P.), with its activities recognised as Nature Tourism. The company is fully authorised by the Portuguese Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF) to operate in all the protected areas in which its activities take place. Birds & Nature is fully bonded and complies with EU law for tour operators.
