Target Species
Critically endangered at the start of the new millennium, the Sierra de Andújar served as the refuge and the epicentre of the recovery of today's Iberian Lynx populations. The Sierra de Andújar has the privilege of being the great stronghold of the Iberian Lynx, a species endemic to the Iberian Peninsula which, due to various factors such as the decline in rabbit populations, habitat loss and direct persecution, had the unfortunate honour of being listed by the IUCN as a critically endangered species at the turn of the century, and until recently was the most threatened feline on the planet. Thanks to the efforts of conservation programmes, ranging from captive breeding and reintroduction of the species to the reinforcement of wild rabbit populations, the situation was reversed to its current listing as a `vulnerable species´, and the lynx is once again reclaiming the territories that were once its own.
Photographing the Iberian Lynx in its natural habitat is a unique experience. The area around the hide is the territory of a family group of lynxes, where individuals of different ages can be observed.
Smoking and making noise inside the hide are completely forbidden, as is leaving it. If any problem arises, the guide will be informed.
