Águila imperial oriental

Photo © Olivier Morel — CC BY 4.0 — Source: iNaturalist #143317015El águila imperial oriental (Aquila heliaca), antes llamada simplemente águila imperial, es una especie de ave accipitriforme de la familia Accipitridae distribuida por Europa del este y gran parte de Asia, de donde emigra al sureste de Asia y África oriental en invierno. Existen pequeñas poblaciones aisladas en los Alpes austriacos e italianos y en la isla de Chipre. El águila imperial ibérica de España, Portugal y parte de Marruecos, considerada una subespecie de águila imperial durante mucho tiempo, ha sido reconocida en 1996 como especie independiente (Aquila adalberti), debido a importantes diferencias genéticas. Ambas águilas difieren también en su aspecto y comportamiento habitual. Por este motivo, a esta especie se la denomina también águila imperial oriental. No se conocen subespecies.
