Es una especie parcialmente migratoria; poblaciones anidan en el cuadrante suroeste de Estados Unidos y en las tierras altas de México y migran hacia regiones más meridionales de su zona de reproducción, mientras que otras poblaciones son residentes en el sur de México y norte de América Central.
