Tapir amazónico

En la provincia de Salta en Argentina fue declarado monumento natural provincial mediante el decreto n.º 4625/2011 de noviembre de 2011. Lo que conlleva tanto su incorporación como elemento representativo como así también su protección absoluta. Tapirus terrestris fue declarado también monumento natural de la provincia de Misiones mediante la ley n.º 2589 sancionada el 11 de noviembre de 1988, por la provincia del Chaco por la ley n.º 5887 sancionada el 25 de abril de 2007 y por la provincia de Formosa por la ley n.º 1582 de 14 de junio de 2012.
