Iceland
Iceland is a North Atlantic island shaped by volcanoes, glaciers, fjords, lava fields and an extensive coastline. Despite its relatively low terrestrial biodiversity, the country offers exceptional wildlife watching, particularly for seabirds and marine mammals. Vast breeding colonies host Atlantic Puffins, Northern Gannets and other seabirds during summer, while coastal waters support Humpback, Minke and Blue Whales, White-beaked Dolphins and Orcas. On land, the Arctic Fox is Iceland’s only native terrestrial mammal, while introduced Reindeer roam the remote eastern highlands. From the seabird cliffs of the Westfjords to the whale-rich waters of the north, Iceland combines dramatic landscapes with some of the North Atlantic’s most distinctive wildlife.
