POLAND
Poland is one of Europe’s most rewarding wildlife destinations, where vast primeval forests, extensive wetlands, mountain ranges and unspoiled river valleys provide refuge for many of the continent’s most iconic species. From the ancient Białowieża Forest to the marshes of Biebrza National Park and the rugged peaks of the Tatra Mountains, Poland offers exceptional opportunities for wildlife watching throughout the year.
The country’s greatest wildlife treasure is the Białowieża Forest, Europe’s last remaining lowland primeval forest and home to the continent’s largest population of European Bison. Poland also supports healthy populations of Wolves, Eurasian Lynx, Brown Bears and Elk, making it one of the best places in Europe to observe large mammals in the wild.
Poland is equally renowned among birdwatchers. More than 470 bird species have been recorded, with internationally important breeding populations of Aquatic Warbler, White-backed Woodpecker, Black Stork, Western Capercaillie and numerous birds of prey. The wetlands of the Biebrza Valley and the Białowieża Forest are among Europe’s finest birding destinations, while the Baltic coast attracts thousands of migratory seabirds and waterfowl each spring and autumn.
Whether tracking European Bison through ancient forests, searching for Wolves in remote woodlands, photographing lekking Capercaillies or exploring the rich marshes of Biebrza, Poland offers one of the finest wildlife experiences in Central Europe.
