The park's terrain alternates between exposed rocky plateaus, shallow valleys, and weathered gorges carved by seasonal streams, with scattered cedar and pine woodland giving way to low shrubland dominated by aromatic herbs and drought-resistant shrubs. This semi-arid environment supports a population of medium-sized predators, mountain-dwelling ungulates, and smaller mammals adapted to harsh, water-limited conditions, while the open slopes and sparse woodland attract raptors and ground-feeding birds that exploit the exposed terrain. Winter brings occasional snow to the higher elevations, and brief spring rains trigger a fleeting flush of wildflower blooms across the basin before the long, hot dry season reasserts itself.
For wildlife photographers and birders, Tazekka rewards patience and early starts when raptors are most active along ridge thermals and ground-feeding birds move across the exposed plateaus. The park's elevation—ranging between 1,000 and 1,600 metres—creates variable microclimates that concentrate wildlife around the few permanent or semi-permanent water sources, making spring and autumn the most productive seasons for observation. Access is straightforward from Fez, and though the semi-arid climate demands respect for seasonal water availability and heat, the park's dramatic bare-rock topography offers exceptional photographic light during the golden hours. The lack of dense forest and the open vistas make this an ideal destination for those seeking to photograph predators and mountain birds in their natural habitat, without the logistical demands of more remote or densely forested reserves.
